Tianjin University of Commerce, formerly known as Tianjin business school, was founded by the Ministry of Commerce and Tianjin Municipal People's Government in 1980. In 1998, the school implemented the central and local co construction, local management based management system. In 2007, the University changed its name to Tianjin Commercial University. The school adheres to the discipline construction as the leader, economics, management, engineering, law, literature, science, art and other disciplines coordinated development, mutual support, with distinct business characteristics. The discipline of power engineering and Engineering Thermophysics was selected into the list of first-class discipline construction in Tianjin, and the discipline group of cold chain logistics and modern service industry was selected into the list of characteristic discipline construction in Tianjin. The university has seven municipal key disciplines, one engineering research center of the Ministry of education, one Tianjin Engineering Center, two Tianjin key laboratories, two international joint research centers, two Tianjin key research bases of Humanities and Social Sciences, two Tianjin University think tanks, and several university level research institutes, institutes and centers.

Tianjin University, abbreviated as Tianda, formerly known as Beiyang University, was founded on October 2, 1895. It is the first modern university in China and the pioneer of modern higher education in China. Since its establishment, the school has made outstanding contributions to the country's economic and social development by adhering to the mission of "invigorating the country through education", the motto of "seeking truth from facts", the school spirit of "rigorous scholarship", the tradition of "patriotic dedication" and the pursuit of "determined innovation". So far, it has trained more than 300000 high-level talents for the country and society. It is one of the first batch of seven frontier science centers approved by the Ministry of education. The university has been approved by 8 countries as "the plan of introducing talents for Discipline Innovation in Colleges and universities", and the College of pharmacy has been approved as "the plan of promoting the international model college in Colleges and universities".
